Fredrix Oil Priming is a modern formula for priming canvas similar to white lead in working qualities but free of the dangers involved in working with lead carbonate. Titanium Dioxide pigment provides an opaque and brighter tone that will not yellow. It is necessary to protect the raw canvas from direct contact with any of the oil priming as the linoleic acid in linseed oil will have a destructive effect on natural fibers. A sizing of animal glue or acrylic resin serves this purpose before application of the priming. Animal glue allows eventual removal of the support for relining. Acrylic resin is not removable but remains flexible and serves to preserve the canvas support.
